O’Sullivan coached the NNSWF-run Jets to the wooden spoon in 2009-10 and second-last in 2010-11 before Hunter Sports Group took over the women’s national league side, appointing former Socceroo Clayton Zane as coach.
Zane and assistant Joey Peters brought together a star-studded side containing Matildas captain Melissa Barbieri, Lisa De Vanna, Emily van Egmond and German international Ariane Hingst but they missed the finals, finishing fifth.
NNSWF will again manage the side, this time with financial support from HSG.
The W-League side will be integrated within NNSWF’s underpinning NSW Institute of Sport Program, which is overseen by NNSWF technical director David Smith and coached by O’Sullivan and assistant Peter McGuinness.
NNSWF has also created a position for a female scholarship coach to work within the NSWIS program
In a statement, NNSWF said a forum which provides identified stakeholders with the opportunity to contribute towards the strategic direction of women’s football has been scheduled for July 25.
