The company brings guest artists from The Australian Ballet and graduating students from The Australian Ballet School together each year to give the students a glimpse of life as a professional dancer, and to add performance experience to their resume.
Ms Pavane was part of the very first company tour in 1980 and said it remained ‘‘a key step in training dancers for the future’’.
She said the graduating students would soon be auditioning for dance companies and directors wanted their dancers to have had performance experience.
‘‘This gives them an opportunity to work alongside company members and look up to them as mentors and role models,’’ Ms Pavane said.
‘‘It also exposes them to the routine of taking daily class, rehearsing, resting and then performing each night.’’

This year the guest artists are former Australian Ballet School students who performed with The Dancers Company a few years ago. Ms Pavane said the students would look at the professional dancers as an example of where they could be in a few years.
She is looking forward to watching their performance of Swan Lake Act III, Paquita and Rimbombo at the Civic Theatre, but admits she has mixed emotions about it.
Her performance on that stage in 1980 was the last time her mother saw her perform before she died of cancer.
The Dancers Company will perform at the Newcastle Civic Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7.30pm. Phone 4929 1977 for tickets.
