IT was a Valentine’s Day surprise that someone clearly could have done without.
Serene footage of Lake Macquarie dominates most of the 55-second video documenting the most recent shark sighting within the popular waterway.
One of those aboard shouts in shock before the camera wheels around to an unexpected sight – a large shark roiling in Lake Macquarie, caught on camera as unsuspecting boaters pass the creature.
Uploader 1cut808 uploaded the video on Sunday, which shows the creature spotted from a distance.

“Heading from Cams Wharf toward Pulbah Island and we spotted what we thought were dolphins ahead,” the uploader wrote.
“When we got a bit closer we quickly realised that it wasn't quite what we thought it was. It's a bloody big shark!”
