The 24-year-old replaces small forward Jarrod Pickett, who is out for the season with a foot injury. He was not named in the Giants squad for Sunday’s game against Essendon at Etihad Stadium but is on standby.
Lloyd joined the Giants with pick 26 of the 2015 Rookie Draft after a stellar season for the Bombers, where he was scouted by Giants assistant coach Mark McVeigh.
The former Western Bulldogs scholarship holder trained with the Giants over summer before winning a spot on the club’s rookie list.
Lloyd has kicked 11 goals in seven games for the Giants in the NEAFL.
The Giants are in sixth spot on the AFL ladder after a stunning win over the Swans last weekend.
Meanwhile, leaders Newcastle City will host Warners Bay in an emotional Black Diamond fixture at No.1 Sportsground on Saturday.
The Bulldogs are mourning club founder John McKeown, who died this week at 95, and have asked past and present players to help observe a minute’s silence before the game.
The match is also a Newcastle City fundraiser for the Soldier On charity, which helps returned servicemen and women cope with the physical and psychological scars of their service. The Blues will auction players’ jerseys at a dinner after the game, in which both clubs will also play for the Plunger Dunn trophy.
In other games on Saturday, Terrigal-Avoca host local rivals Killarney Vale at Hylton Moore Oval and Nelson Bay play Cardiff at Dick Burwell Oval.
