Playing for the new Red and Blue Derby trophy on Saturday at Broadmeadow, Souths led 1-0 at half-time in the round 13 game via a Simon Pocock goal at a penalty corner. Luke Witchard made it 2-0 in the 58th minute before Mitch Brown scored from a PC in the 65th to give the Blues hope. Kyle Bosworth converted from a PC in the 69th to seal the win and take Souths to 17 points.
Souths coach Dan Coulson said Sharrock and Norths keeper Shaun O’Brien were outstanding, while Hunt was solid at the back for the Lions in a high-quality, high-tempo game. Norths stayed third on 10 points.
Gosford stayed a point behind Souths with a 4-1 win over Maitland at Wyong on Sunday, while Kieron Arthur scored a double for The Entrance in their 3-1 victory over Wests at Broadmeadow.
In round 10 of the Women’s Premier League, Souths lost 3-1 to Central, Regal downed Tigers 2-0, Oxfords beat Uni 5-0 and Erina fell 4-2 to Gosford. The Avoca versus The Entrance match was deferred.
