Gillies married Jakica Ivancevic in Christ Church Cathedral in Newcastle about 3pm on Saturday.
Security guards flanked the cathedral doors and in true rock style only guests "on the list" were allowed in.
A mixture of music industry representatives and relatives were among the guests, including talent scout Jake Denny, model Louise Van de Vorst, Silverchair bandmate Chris Joannou and his Great Outdoors girlfriend Laura Csortan, manager John Watson and ABC3 and MTV personality Mitchell Tomlinson.
The groom was seen quelling some pre-nuptial nerves by having a beer with best man and Silverchair lead singer Daniel Johns.
The couple, who originally met at age 14 at TAFE, reconnected in July last year.
Gillies reportedly proposed by covering Jakica's bed with love notes and frangipani petals.
The bridesmaids wore glowing pinks dresses and carried pink tiger lillies.
Ivancevic's gown was by Australian designer Henry Roth and she sported a 4.3 carat pink diamond ring.
The couple is expected to honeymoon in Peurto Rice before Gillies returns to Sydney to record Silverchair's sixth album.
