‘‘Farmer John’’ (who isn’t about to reveal his last name to a horde of female fans) runs a horse and cattle farm in the small Upper Hunter Valley community.
‘‘I didn’t put in for the show. The girls at the local feed store in Merriwa where I pick up my horse feed dobbed me in,’’ John said.
Farmer John, 58, said he was not the best talker out of the bachelors but his experience on the show, which is pre-taped, did teach him to be a bit more flexible.
‘‘I’m used to doing everything my way and I’ve come back a peg or two and learnt to be a bit more flexible,’’ he said.
John, who has two grown-up sons, has been on his own since his wife died of cancer 14 years ago.
His proudest achievements include being chief horse trainer on the movie Australia.
However his latest dealings with cameras and indeed women left him feeling out of his element.
‘‘I had three women in the house at once which is every man’s dream but let me tell you, it’s not. I couldn’t win an argument,’’ John said.
This is the seventh series of the reality show which places six farmers face-to-face with 36 eager, potential wives. During the past six series, the show has resulted in five marriages, three babies and one on the way.
The Farmer Wants a Wife premieres on Monday, August 22, at 7.30pm on NBN.
