In April this year Table 1 Espresso opened a second location, at Warners Bay, which has been nominated in the Best New Business category, while the original Merewether location is again nominated for Best Cafe.
It’s the latest chapter in a remarkable run. In 2015, Table 1 Espresso at Merewether took out best new business at the HLBAs and then went on to win Australian New Business of the Year.
In 2016, the same venue took out Cafe of the Year and then won overall Hunter Business of the Year, figuring again in the national finals.
“To be nominated again in 2017 for both our locations is always the first step, and both humbling and proud,” George said.
“We know the votes for the nominations come from mystery judges who visit our locations, so staff are trained to treat everyone with great customer service, polite attitude and extreme knowledge of menu.
“We are where we are because of our staff who really deserve the accolades.”
Both Table 1 Espresso locations specialise in breakfast and lunch. A liquor licences at Warners Bay enables food to be served with classic wines and signature beers.
“We serve food that nurtures the body and the soul,” George said. “Our sugar-coated pancakes and waffles set Instagram alight, our salads are a magnet for the health conscious while the top-end gourmands savour our signature seafood dishes. We cater to everyone and draw repeat custom from far and wide.”
Table 1 Espresso has set the standard when it comes to promoting food on social media.
“We basically created the social media food scene when it comes to restaurants and cafes in Newcastle,” George said. “We have over 40,000 followers on social media and we really push it to the extreme feeding them with content.”
Table 1 Espresso is located at 89 City Road Merewether and 2/450 The Esplanade, Warners Bay.
