SAM Dunlevie would like to see Newcastle join other cities around the world by installing bike racks on the front of its buses.

The Waratah resident uses public transport and his pushbike to get around town, but said Novocastrian transport needs would be better served if cyclists could take their bikes on public buses.
Canberra has already installed racks on buses, undertaking some routes, along with Los Angeles and Madrid.
“Having watched people use the system every day in Los Angeles, they don’t make a fuss,” he said. “It doesn’t take very long to clip a bike onto the rack.”
Racks used in Canberra can store up to two bicycles.
He said due to the “changing face of transport in Newcastle” the time was right to install bike racks onto the city’s buses too.
Mr Dunlevie contacted Transport for NSW with his idea, but he never heard back.
“I thought, I might as well do something about it ... and show them we are interested,” he said.
