Wilson told fans via a video on social media on Tuesday that he damaged his right shoulder last Friday while riding at Glenrock State Conservation Area in Highfields.
The Queenslander has been spending time in the Hunter recently as he and his wife, Newcastle model Ashley Osborne, prepare for the birth of their first child, due in March.
Wilson was not entered for Surfest’s main event, scheduled for February 19-25 at Merewether.
“I have some not very good news to share,” Wilson said.
“I’ve come undone on my mountain bike doing some cross-training in Glenrock National Park in Newcastle on Friday evening.
“I went over the handlebars and landed square on my shoulder and I’ve ruptured the AC joint.
“It’s not going to require surgery. It’s extremely uncomfortable.
“There’s no great time frame on the recovery. I’ve just got to take it one step at a time and I’m in great hands, and I’ll be doing everything I can to come back stronger and better than I was before, but it’s a forced rest which is never too much fun.”
The 29-year-old, who is coming off his best year on the World Surf League, is due to start his CT campaign on the Gold Coast from March 11.
