The Largs couple will this week open their second Burger Urge at the new-look Stockland Green Hills alongside the likes of Rashays, Rolld, Wok N Roll, Le Wrap, Little Hong Kong, Nathan’s Famous, Namaste Indian, Sushi Gogoro, Sushi Hub, Little Hong Kong, Oliver Brown Protein Express and Guzman Y Gomez, to name a few. New York restaurant TGI Fridays is due to open on April 20.
More than 30 eateries have been added to the culinary line-up at Stockland Green Hills following a $414 million redevelopment. A new indoor/outdoor restaurant precinct called The Courtyard will seat 1000 diners and has unique LED light trees.
“We broke the Burger Urge chain’s opening weekend record at Glendale and it still stands. And we did it without being able to serve alcohol initially,” Chris Schafferius told Food & Wine with a laugh.
“We never expected in our wildest dreams that Glendale would get the support it did from Lake Macquarie residents but it was a wonderful problem to have.
“The original business model was for me to stay in my mining equipment job but a couple of weeks after the opening we realised that we had created a bit of a monster so I resigned from my job and have been in the business full-time.
“Katerina, our two daughters and I walked into the shop together not long ago and I walked in on six inches of air – I felt such pride that the four of us were going to work together.”
To celebrate Stockland Green Hills’ grand opening tomorrow a number of exclusive events, offers and giveaways have been scheduled including:
- Free burritos at Guzman Y Gomez on Thursday, March 22, noon to 8pm.
- From 5pm on Saturday, March 24, shoppers are invited to a garden party at The Courtyard. The free event will include entertainment, live music, games, offers and giveaways. The party will conclude with an LED light show and fireworks display at 9pm. Also on Saturday, Chatime will be giving away free fruity iced tea.
- A Peterson House pop-up wine bar near David Jones until March 25.
