Among the projects funded in the past are Light Up Newcastle lantern walk and the Toy Run. Grants have also been won for projects in categories for economic development and recreation.
The council says the $560,000 available this year is a “record” amount, with community groups invited to apply online.
A workshop will be held on April 11 to help groups navigate the council application process.
“It costs nothing to apply and the funding we have on offer could help not just you and your project but the community as a whole,” Cr Nelmes said.
Light Up Newcastle’s Sally Hill said on Monday that her event had “grown and grown” after receiving funding help.
