Professor Jenny Gore set to make history at Oxford as historic university's second ever visiting professor

The historic honour, set to commence in October of this year, was conferred to Professor Gore due to her studies in the field of education, and will set a new milestone at the world’s oldest English-speaking university.

Professor Gore also said she was “excited to formalise research links with Oxford”.

“This appointment will help to facilitate high impact, collaborative research and I look forward to the opportunities this will create for my team,” she said.

“The Oxford Department of Education is highly esteemed and it’s a privilege to be joining colleagues there on a regular basis over the next few years.”

“Despite its elite reputation, the city of Oxford faces some real challenges with equity and schooling. It will be a test to adapt aspects of our Australian work to this new context.”

It’s a massive honour and “a recognition of the globally relevant research being undertaken” by Professor Gore and her team, University of Newcastle vice-chancellor Caroline McMillen said after the announcement.

“Appointments of this magnitude are rare, and extended to those making a remarkable contribution in their field,” Professor McMillen said.

“We look forward to seeing how this wonderful collaboration will continue to build on the momentum of the crucial work being undertaken by Professor Gore and her team.”

Professor Gore was previously Head of the University’s School of Education and is now Director of the Teachers and Teaching Research Centre. She is also Chief Editor of the international journal, Teaching and Teacher Education.

Oxford University is currently ranked first in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
