The upgrade to the station was announced in October as part of the state government’s Transport Access Program.
The program, which began in 2011, aims deliver safe, modern and accessible public transport infrastructure.
“We want to make sure that our less mobile customers, including those with a disability, limited mobility, parents with prams and travellers with luggage, can easily access Waratah station and its facilities,” Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC said.
“The proposed work includes three new lifts, an additional accessible parking space, a family accessible toilet, upgrades to pick up/drop off and taxi zones, improved pathways, additional lighting and improved CCTV.”
The upgrade plans can be viewed online, at Mayfield Library or at Newcastle City Council’s head office.
Transport for NSW will host an information stall at the Hunter Line station from 4pm to 6pm next Thursday.
