Gibson, 22, departs Sydney on Thursday and will have a couple of weeks settling in Hobart before joining her new Tigers teammates at training later this month.
"I'm looking forward to a bit of a change," Gibson told the Newcastle Herald.
"Four years is a long time and Cricket NSW have given me the building blocks to be the cricketer that I am today and I take a lot of confidence out of that."
Gibson admitted it was a tough decision, but said the change was about "getting more of a go".
"If you asked me four years ago where I thought I'd be now, I probably would have liked to cement a spot," she said.
"It was a frustrating season just gone because it was the fittest I'd ever been."
She is one of three players shifting state allegiances from NSW to Tasmania ahead of 2019-2020, also joining Nicola Carey and Belinda Vakarewa.
Wallsend left-arm orthodox spinner Sam Bates has recently ventured to the Tigers from ACT.
"It's still a gamble because there's no guarantee of game time, but the odds are in my favour," Gibson said.
Gibson is off-contract with WBBL franchise Sydney Thunder.
She was raised in Singleton, played first grade in Maitland with Wests and last season featured for Hamilton-Wickham in Newcastle's T20 Summer Bash.
