One of Newcastle's best penthouses has been sold for a price believed to put it among the city's highest apartment results.

Robinson Property's Ben Robinson marketed the sizeable penthouse in The Royal complex at 59/1 King Street, Newcastle with a price guide of $3.85 million. It has been secured by an anonymous local buyer for an undisclosed sum.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment has north, south and east aspects.

According to Australian Property Monitors data, there have been few apartment sales in excess of $3 million in Newcastle. The highest is $6 million, paid off the plan for a "super penthouse" in the new East End development of the Hunter Street Mall.
In 2014, APM data reveals the $3.905 million sale of 1207/75 Shortland Esplanade. In 2008, $4.495 million was paid for an off-the-plan penthouse on the 16th floor of the The Royal's McCaffrey Wing.
