Strike Force Raptor North investigators are examining the circumstances of an incident in which two men accessed a unit block on the corner of Young Road and Market Street.
Police said the home invaders forced entry to a unit and the occupant, a 31-year-old man, was assaulted.
The two men fled, police said, and the injured man presented at the John Hunter Hospital with head injuries later that day.
Police were notified and the man has since been released from hospital.
Strike Force Raptor North is investigating and released the images to find two men they say can offer assistance with their inquiries into the incident.
The images depict two men of solid and medium build wearing hi-visibility clothing and dark caps.
Officers are also seeking information about a silver Toyota Camry spotted in the area.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
