The body of the man of medium build with short light-brown hair was recovered by officers from Marine Area Command after it was discovered in the water around 100 metres from the shore, Police told the Newcastle Herald on Tuesday evening.
The body was found without any identification or clothing and did not have any identifying tattoos or body modifications, police said.
An inspector attached to the Lake Macquarie Police District said police investigations into the incident were continuing.
The body was expected to undergo a post-mortem examination and a report will be prepared for the Coroner, which would reveal the cause of the man's death, police said.
