It's rare for the infamously recluse Johns to be spotted out in public in Newcastle, but on Thursday night Johns was among the crowd at 48 Watt Street for Starcrawler's maiden Australian tour.
The 40-year-old Novocastrian mingled with punters and vaped from a electronic cigarette while watching Starcrawler fronted by 20-year-old wild child Arrow de Wilde, who is renown for spitting fake blood, simulating sex acts and masochistically hitting herself with her microphone.
Johns, himself, has often adopted a theatrical performance style throughout his illustrious career.
There was his glitter jacket from the Neon Ballroom days, the muscular nipple-pierced look of the Young Modern period, and perhaps the strangest yet, the fake fur coat with tongues attached in his video clip for No One Defeats US, his Dreams collaboration with Luke Steele.
Johns appeared to be strictly at 48 Watt Street for Starcrawler, who were the support band, as he wasn't spotted once the headline act and fellow LA rock band The Growlers took to the stage.
