Convicted paedophile, former Labor Swansea MP and ex-Lake Macquarie councillor Milton Orkopoulos will remain behind bars while the court considers a raft of fresh charges against him.

The 62-year-old was charged on Monday with several historical child abuse counts.
He faces 15 charges, including aggravated indecent assault of a person under 16 years of age, committing an act of indecency with a person under 16 years, aggravated sexual assault and causing a child aged under 14 to participate in child prostitution.
Police allege Orkopoulos sexually and indecently assaulted two boys known to him on separate occasions in the 1990s at Lake Macquarie and on the state's mid-north coast.
The former MP did not apply for bail when he faced Newcastle Local Court via audio-visual link from Long Bay Correctional Centre on Tuesday morning, and it was formally refused.
Magistrate John Chicken made an order for Orkopoulos's mental health status to be assessed, after the 62-year-old's lawyer Omar Juweinat made an application to the court to ensure his client would have access to the support he required - given he had been moved from a remand centre to a maximum security prison on Monday.

Magistrate Chicken adjourned the matter to Newcastle Local Court on August 20, with the prosecution expected to serve the brief of evidence.
Orkopoulos was granted parole in December after more than 11 years in jail for 30 child sex, drug and child porn offences.
He was arrested in January for allegedly breaching parole conditions and was in Silverwater jail when Lake Macquarie detectives arrested him over the latest string of charges on Monday.
Orkopoulos spent four years on Lake Macquarie City Council and served in NSW Parliament between 1999 and 2006, including time as a minister.
