When Guzman Y Gomez opens at the former APK Australian Pizza Kitchen site at 86 Beaumont Street it will be the 12th outlet to open in NSW since the Mexican and Latin eatery chain was established in 2006.
The 4558 burrito mark was set by a rival GYG store in Brisbane and part-owner and former Newcastle Knight Ben Kennedy is confident Newcastle can take on the Queenslanders.
"Newcastle locals are really getting behind GYG - the excitement and support is growing," Mr Kennedy said.
"We can't wait to get the doors open and the free burritos pumping. I would encourage everyone to get down to the restaurant and try the authentic and healthy food that GYG offers."
The burritos will be made to order and you can choose from chicken, beef, steak, pork or barramundi marinated in GYG's chipotle or Guerrero marinade, or a vegetarian filling. It will all be packed into a warm tortilla (or in a bowl as a gluten-free option) with rice, black beans, cheddar cheese and fresh salsa.
Free burritos will be on offer from 11am to 8pm tomorrow (limit one per person, and no other menu items are available). Drinks include frozen margaritas, frozen sangrias, Mexican beers and soft drink. Go to guzmanygomez.com.au.
