Dore said the Northstars, who returned to training last month, and Ice Dogs were "currently discussing" a "best of series" for August with most of this season already wiped out by the COVID-19 outbreak.
"We're pretty confident of getting that up and running," Dore said.
Any initial fixtures would likely feature just two clubs with defending champions the Sydney Bears impacted by player availability and the Brave's rink in Caberra undergoing maintenance.
AIHL officials released a statement recently: "While the current outbreak and border closures are making it increasingly unlikely, the Retrun To Play committee remains hopeful of having a substantially condensed 2020 schedule when the situation improves in Melbourne."
