A CORRECTIVE Services NSW employee has been charged over an alleged sexual relationship with a former Hunter prison inmate.

The 52-year-old woman - who was a service and programs officer for Corrective Services NSW - was arrested in Muswellbrook on Thursday.
It followed an investigation by detectives from Corrective Services Investigation Unit under Strike Force Canopus following a referral from the correctional facility.
She was charged with engage in relationship with inmate cause safety risk and engage in sexual conduct compromise sentence.
Police will allege the woman started a relationship with a 56-year-old male while he was an inmate.
She was granted bail to appear at Muswellbrook court on Monday September 21.
Police said her employment has been suspended.
