The popular drinking hole now shuts at midnight, but an application lodged with Newcastle council says the later closing would "respond to customer demand and public need".
"There is a demand for an increase in safe and sociable later hour food and drink services in the Newcastle area" the application says.
It says the later trading would "achieve the provision of late night meals as envisioned by the community" in the council's Newcastle After Dark strategy.
The proposal has attracted 47 submissions, most of them objections from nearby residents concerned about noise and antisocial behaviour.
Newcastle's Burford family bought the Prince in 2016.
Last month, the council approved plans for a Modus Operandi microbrewery serving food and drinks in nearby Merewether Street.
