RAAF Base Williamtown's 80th anniversary is a source of great pride for base commander Senior Australian Defence Force Officer (SADFO) Group Captain (GPCAPT) Anthony Stainton.
Pride for the RAAF which celebrates its centenary this year. Pride for the men and women who currently serve and have served over the years, and pride for the local community which has evolved with the base over the last eight decades.
"Significant effort has gone into the base both historically and particularly in recent years with the billion dollar upgrade in readiness for the arrival of the new Joint Strike Fighters," said GPCAPT Stainton.
"Being here at this juncture is an honour, particularly when you think RAAF is the second oldest air force in the world. To be part of that, for the men and women who have served and the region that has supported it, is very special indeed."
