* Victoria entered day two of its fourth lockdown on Saturday, with five new cases and contact tracers focusing on five of 150 Melbourne exposure sites.
* The restrictions again sparked protest rallies, with at least 10 people arrested in Melbourne's Flagstaff Gardens.
* People infected in the outbreak have the B1617 strain of the virus, first identified in India, which authorities believe could be 50 per cent more transmissible than other variants.
* Victoria has asked for 160 Australian Defence Force staff to help doorknock positive cases and primary close contacts, as 15,000 people self-isolate.
* The federal government has confirmed it will not provide any financial support to businesses affected by the lockdown, which is expected to deliver a $2.5 billion hit to the Victorian economy.
* Opposition leader Anthony Albanese said given the government had "failed dismally" to protect Victoria, it must introduce financial support for people during the lockdown - the first without the JobKeeper scheme.
* Acting Victorian Premier James Merlino also pointed the finger at the federal government, saying a successful vaccine rollout and fit-for-purpose quarantine facilities may have changed Victoria's fate.
* A record number of people have lined up for COVID tests in Victoria, with 56,000 administered in the 24 hours to Saturday morning. Health workers also administered 21,626 jabs.
* There were 17,012 tests conducted in NSW to 8pm Friday, compared with the previous day's total of 17,593.
* The highest number of vaccines in one day (14,190) were also administered by NSW Health, 5357 of them at the Sydney Olympic Park hub.
SPORT:
* The AFL is working through contingency plans for a rejigged round 12, with the Richmond-Essendon 'Dreamtime at the G' match expected to be in Perth.
* Melbourne Storm have shifted their next home game to Queensland, while NRL boss Peter V'landys says the opening State of Origin match is unlikely to go ahead at the MCG.

* There have been 4,153, 149 doses administered in the national COVID-19 vaccination rollout up to Friday, including 121,610 in the previous 24 hours.
* Of the total, 2,662,122 have been administered by the Commonwealth (an increase of 67,881 in the previous 24 hours).
* 2,316,013 have been issued in primary care (+63,410) and 346,109 in aged and disability facilities (+4471).
* 1,491,027 have been administered by the states and territories, including 53,729 in the previous 24 hours.
* 445,158 have been administered in Victoria (+23,524), 411,834 in NSW (+14,190), 219,552 in Queensland (+7423), 165,652 in Western Australia (+3790), 104,771 in South Australia (+2476), 64,601 in Tasmania (+1308), 47,930 in the ACT (+1018) and 31,529 in the NT (NA).
AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:
* Australia has reported five new virus cases on Saturday, all in Victoria.
* There have been at least five new overseas-acquired cases in hotel quarantine: two in Victoria and one each in Queensland, NSW and the Northern Territory.
* The national death toll is 910: Victoria 820, NSW 56, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 7, SA 4, ACT 3 (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).
GLOBAL CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:
* Cases: at least 169,471,649
