The six deaths were made up of four women and two men. Three people were from western Sydney, two people were from south western Sydney and one person was from Dubbo.
The Hunter New England added another 41 cases, slightly down from the record total announced on Wednesday. Thirteen of the new cases were infectious in the community, 21 cases are linked, six are unlinked, and the source of fourteen cases is under investigation.
The most cases were in Lake Macquarie (26), while seven were recorded in Newcastle, two each in Cessnock, Maitland and Muswellbrook and one each from Port Stephens and Mid North Coast.
Eleven local cases in hospital, but none are in ICU.
In its daily update, Hunter New England Health has reminded teachers and HSC students who are not yet vaccinated can walk in to the Belmont clinic today and tomorrow to receive their immunisation. No booking is necessary.
Mr Hazzard said 83.6 per cent of the eligible population had received a dose of vaccine, while 55.5 per cent were fully vaccinated.
He said this was a "remarkable increase", considering the first dose rate two days ago was 82.5 per cent.
Twenty eight per cent of children aged 12-15 are also vaccinated, Mr Hazzard said.
There are currently 1244 people in hospital with COVID-19.
Orange and Glen Innes are set to come out of lockdown at midnight on Thursday, but stay at home orders for the Hilltops area have been extended for another seven days.
