A large-scale multi agency response led by the NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) was launched on Wednesday afternoon (October 20) after a supercell storm hit the Coffs Harbour region on the NSW North Coast.

NSW SES responded to over 280 requests for assistance, as of Wednesday afternoon, with its emergency services partners after large hailstones and damaging winds impacted the region around 2pm.
The roof of a shopping Centre in Toormina was severely damaged during the weather event, with a local nursing home also extensively damaged.
At this stage, there are no reports of injury.
Crews are continuing to respond to requests for assistance, with numbers expected to climb as people return to their homes after work.

Teams are responding to damage schools, nursing homes, businesses, properties and cars.
There's a risk of flash flooding in the region as the storm is expected to move out to sea in the next few hours.
Kempsey, Gladstone and South West Rocks SES Units are on stand-by, Oxley MP Melinda Pavey said.
