A-League Women: Meet Newcastle Jets defender Hannah Brewer

Jets defender Hannah Brewer is one of two foundation players in the squad, along with Gema Simon, and is eyeing a 14th national league season. It is her 11th in Jets colours.

As a long-serving player, the Central Coast 28-year-old has experienced the club's highs and lows - from finals football in 2008-09 and 2017-18 to collecting the wooden spoon.

She is a fan favourite and described by Jets coach Ash Wilson as someone who plays with "pure aggression and passion".

NH: What was your first club, and how old were you?

HB: Berkeley Vale Wombats, and I was about eight. I actually always wanted to play rugby league but my family wasn't too keen on that, so my next best option was soccer.

NH: What do you do off the field?

HB: I work as a teacher in special education. I'm currently working in an ED unit helping students with mental health. There's definitely some tough days but I love my job. I'm definitely a family girl. I love spending time with my family and friends, and my dog. There's not much time for anything else with working then travelling back and forth to training.

NH: What TV series are you addicted to?

HB: I'm into true crime, so I get hooked on all of the documentaries. I'm a bit late to the game but I did just finish watching Sons of Anarchy.

NH: What can't you live without?

HB: My dog - I walk around with him tattooed on my arm.

NH: What music is playing on game day?

HB: I'm a bit old school. I was definitely born in the wrong era. I've got 70s and 80s music on a playlist that I bang out and sing along to in the change room, which is a little bit of fun, and on the drive up from the Central Coast. That's wild.

NH: Do you have any pre-match habits?

HB: Definitely not. I love my morning walk and a coffee but I'm pretty cruisy. I just rock up to the game and play.
