Police will conduct the forensic examinations under a coronial order as part of ongoing investigations into the then 22-year-old's disappearance.
Ms Balmain was last seen in the Kingsford area on November 5 1994. Items including her make-up bag, keys and a shoe was later found scattered near Ainslie Street.
Her mother, a Soldiers Point ballet teacher, had been due to meet her at Newcastle train station but her daughter never arrived.
No-one has ever been charged in relation to her disappearance.
A 1999 inquest found she had died at the hands of a person or persons unknown, with the matter referred to the Unsolved Homicide Unit.
A formal review last year led to re-investigation under the Strike Force Aramac banner.
A $1 million reward was announced in May.

Police said investigators will on Tuesday search properties at Bellevue Hill, Bondi Beach and Potts Point.
Lead investigator Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Bell said investigators were still combing through evidence old and new as part of their work.
"As part of ongoing inquiries, officers attached to Strike Force Aramac have been meticulously examining all former interviews, witness statements and exhibits, to ensure every possible avenue of investigation is exhausted," he said.
"In addition, following the $1 million reward announcement and additional public appeals for information, we are now exploring a number of new lines of inquiry.
"This includes whether Revelle was scheduled to meet with any individuals - clients, friends or associates - previously unknown to police, on the evening of her disappearance.
"The locations that are being searched today will be subject to an extensive forensic examination by specialist officers attached to the Forensic Evidence and Technical Services (FETS) Command.
"We are now exploring a new line of inquiry and believe these locations are of significance and will help us progress the investigation.
"As investigations continue, we are urging anyone with information to contact police so we may provide much-needed answers to Revelle's family," Det Ch Insp Bell said.
Speaking earlier this year, the model and dancer's half sister Suellen Simpson said she was hopeful the re-investigation would deliver answers "so that I may finally put her to rest".
"For many years, our family worked tirelessly to find out what happened to my sister - but sadly both our mother and Revelle's father, Ivor, passed away without ever knowing what happened to their little girl," Ms Simpson said.
"Losing someone that is close to you - you're never the same person again. I truly hope this reward will prompt someone to come forward with information that will help police find those responsible for Revelle's disappearance."
