Police have spent Thursday morning investigating what is believed to have been a public place shooting in suburban Newcastle.

Investigators have been told that residents of Parkway Drive at Hamilton South heard a loud noise about 6am and found damage to the front of a unit block consistent with bullet holes.
No-one was injured in the apparent shooting.
Detectives remained at the unit block throughout Thursday morning examining the crime scene.
Investigators are calling for anyone with information about what happened to contact Newcastle Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
They are particularly interested in dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at the time.
