The direction in which Shane van Gisbergen steers his career's next chapter hinges on the new Gen-3 cars set to debut in the Supercars competition next season.

Fresh off winning back-to-back titles and the third Supercars crown of his career, 33-year-old van Gisbergen is at the peak of his powers but keen to see how the new cars stack up for next year's competition as he ponders his future.
His Triple Eight Racing taam Holden has carried him to a record 20 wins from 31 races in 2022 and New Zealander van Gisbergen is eager to stick around if the racing is competitive.
"I'd like to stay here," he said.
"If I stayed in Supercars I'll definitely stay with Triple Eight. I love the team and we have started talking about a new deal.
"But maybe I'd like to start next year and see what the racing is like. The car has potential...I like to race people as well.
"So let's see. Hopefully next year is a better race car and I'd love to stay and Supercars itself is close to home."
What will influence van Gisbergen's decision is just how the Chevrolet Cameros and new Ford Mustangs shape up in a new-look competition.
He said the race ability of the cars and what those races look like is likely to impact his future plans.
"I just want it to be fun and a good car to drive," he added.
"We still have some some room to develop it and change it around. I don't want it to be like Porsche Cup where they're all the same speed - boring racing,
"Because it's sounds very stock at the moment, but maybe we'll have a lot of things we can change on the car.
"I just hope that we're not locked in next year and everyone's the same - makes the racing a bit stale."
