"Unlike my last two albums there wasn't a 'theme', it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song," Ms Minogue said.
The first single from her upcoming album Tension, Padam Padam, rides a hypnotic beat with Ms Minogue's signature soft, electronica vocals.
The song's video clip has Ms Minogue dancing in bolts of crimson chiffon and long red leather boots prompting fans to declare "mother has arrived".
She channeled roadside-diner chic for the clip filmed in Los Angeles by director Sophie Muller featuring a troupe of dancers in an carpark overgrown with weeds.

"I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from remote recording, which we have all got used to - my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half!" she said.
The pop icon and former Neighbours star has sold more than 80 million records worldwide in her enduring career and picked up 17 ARIA Awards, three BRIT awards, two MTV awards and a Grammy.
Ms Minogue said the album, released in full on September 22, started with "an open mind and a blank page".
"Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now," she said.
"I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story."
