A Sydney man has devoured 23 chicken wings a minute to be named the 2023 United States Wing Eating Champion.

Competitive eater James Webb blew his competition out of the water at the National Buffalo Wing Festival in the state of New York.
He demolished 276 wings in 12 minutes, well clear of the second-placed Joey Chestnut on 240 wings.

As Mr Webb guzzled ahead in the contest the emcee couldn't hide his surprise as he told the crowd, "we could lose this to Australia, and we will never live that down as a people".
The championship win scored Mr Webb about $7700 in prize money.
Last year's winner, Miki Sudo, won by eating 233 wings.
Speaking to his more than 50,000 Instagram followers on Tuesday morning Sydney time, Mr Webb reflected on a "mental weekend".
"Fortunate that on the day my best got me over the line," he said.
"Crazy to think I've beaten all the top guys this weekend... what an experience, what an opportunity."

He revealed he was headed to the gym but was planning to "take it easy".
"I don't feel the greatest as you can imagine," he said.
The event was held during the US' Labor Day weekend at the National Buffalo Wing Festival, at the stadium home to American football team the Buffalo Bills.
