Jobs galore as clean economy sweeps through all sectors

Technology entrepreneur turned climate activist Eytan Lenko is working with billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes to help turn Australia into a renewable energy superpower.

However, their lofty goals need workers, with 200,000 new jobs by 2030 and over two million by 2050 expected to be created.

Online tools to be launched at a Careers for Net Zero Fair in Melbourne on Thursday allow students, new workers, mid-career professionals and bosses to figure out what climate job might suit them and apply.

Those already working in the surprisingly wide range of fields include blade technicians, electricians and engineers along with bookkeepers, business analysts and community advisors.

Tech companies, mechanics training to work on electric cars, and bankers are also part of the transition along with regional planners, teachers and plumbers.

"We're not talking about the future, we're talking about now," Mr Lenko told AAP.

"At the net-zero careers fair we'll have over 50 companies bringing real jobs."

Jobseekers can log into a new website, list skills, answer a questionnaire and then be shown jobs that suit them.

"We're also launching the world's largest climate careers platform, Terra.do, that has already helped half a million people globally get into climate jobs," he said.

There are 4500 jobs on the Australian part of the jobs board that people can apply for immediately.

"Australia has never had so many people in employment and it is tough for companies to find good people," Mr Lenko said.

"So when we choose what to do with our careers, we're putting in a vote for which way the economy goes."

The all-day expo at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre is hosted by the industry's Clean Energy Council and the Energy Efficiency Council.

Ai Group, not-for-profit Boundless, Engineers Australia and Australian Power Institute are also supporting the landmark event.
