Man survives head injury from horror fall in national park

The Ipswich man was at the scenic Cedar Creek Falls in Tamborine National Park on January 7 when he fell shortly before 2pm.

Police found the man unconscious and gave first aid treatment while the Rescue 500 helicopter and further emergency services arrived.

He was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a "serious but stable condition".

Police said no one else was physically injured but warned residents of the Mount Tamborine area "to avoid entering floodwaters and to stay away from drains, culverts and water that is more than knee deep".

They also warned national park visitors "to avoid areas that are closed due to damage" to allow quick restoration of services.

Severe storms that affected the region during the end of December and beginning of January continue to cause safety hazards, including fallen trees and powerlines, police said.
