Australia could be in for a gloomy January 26 as clouds, cooler temperatures and the chance of showers loom large over many east coast cities.

Western Australia looks to be the only state to escape showers, with sunny conditions predicted across the west coast.
Here's what the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting for Australia Day in your city.
NSW
Sydneysiders could be in for a rainy Australia Day. Temperatures in the harbour city will reach a top of 35 degrees, with a 60 percent chance of showers in the afternoon and evening.
Partly cloudy conditions are forecast throughout the day, with light winds becoming west to northwesterly in the morning and shifting south in the afternoon.
The chance of showers will extend further south into the Riverina, with a 70 per cent chance of rain forecasted for both Wagga Wagga and Albury. Temperatures across the south are expected to reach a top of 28 degrees.
Cloudy conditions have been forecast for Bathurst and the Central Tablelands, with temperatures reaching a top of 34 degrees. The Bureau has predicted a high chance of showers around the Blue Mountains.
Meanwhile, country music festivalgoers around Tamworth in the state's northeast could expect temperatures up to 39 degrees, with the possibility of a late thunderstorm in the evening.
Partly cloudy conditions are expected as far west as Broken Hill.
ACT
Cloudy conditions are expected in the national capital, with a high chance of showers in the morning and afternoon. A thunderstorm is also a possibility. Winds will be northwest to south-westerly between 20-30kmh before becoming light during the evening.
Victoria
Melbourne's overcast weather will continue on Australia Day with temperatures reaching a top of 23 degrees. Forecasts predict partly cloudy conditions with a chance of showers around the Dandenong Ranges.
Cloudy or partly cloudy conditions have also been forecast for major regional centres in Bendigo (reaching a top of 25), Ballarat (top of 21), Geelong (top of 23), Warrnambool (top of 21) and Shepparton (top of 27).

Queensland
Brisbane is forecast to experience a cloudy January 26, with a medium chance of showers in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will reach 31 degrees, but won't fall below 24.
Possible showers have also been predicted for large population centres on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, as well as further north in Cairns and Townsville.
Tropical Cyclone Kirrily is expected to cross the coast overnight on January 25 and weaken over inland Queensland on Australia Day.
A coastal crossing was forecast around Townsville on the evening of January 26.
It's expected to bring intense heavy rainfall to areas across northern and inland Queensland on Australia Day and into the weekend.
Queensland communities have been advised to stay up to date with forecasts and warnings.
Tasmania
Hobart can expect a top of 21 degrees and a medium chance of showers. Northwesterly and westerly winds will reach up to 40kmh during the morning.
Further north in Launceston, residents can expect a mostly sunny morning with a medium chance of showers in the afternoon. Temperatures will reach a top of 23 degrees.
South Australia
Showers are expected to clear in Adelaide by January 26, with the city expected to experience partly cloudy skies and a top of 24 degrees.
Mount Gambier will reach a top of 22 degrees with a medium chance of showers, and towns along the Eyre Peninsula will experience temperatures in the low to mid-20s.
Northern Territory
Cloudy conditions in Darwin with a high chance of rain in the morning and afternoon. Temperatures will reach a top of 30 degrees. Weather forecasts predict the chance of a thunderstorm with westerly winds reaching up to 25kmh.
Alice Springs will reach a top of 38 degrees with partly cloudy conditions, while Katherine will reach 34 degrees with a chance of storms.
Western Australia
Perth may be the only major Australian city experiencing a sunny Australia Day, with temperatures set to reach a top of 33 degrees and zero chance of rain. East to southeasterly winds are expected to reach a top of 25 to 40 kmh during the day.
Sunny conditions will carry down the west coast to Bunbury, which will experience a top of 31 degrees.
